The Topanga Banjo & Fiddle Contest and Folk Festival is returning on Sunday, May 18th, 2025, for a full day of old-time, bluegrass, and folk music In the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains. Taking place at the King Gillette Ranch in Calabasas, California, this beloved festival has been a Southern California staple for over six decades, bringing together musicians, dancers, artisans, and folk enthusiasts for a one-of-a-kind celebration
A Festival Like No Other
Since its inception in 1961, the Topanga Banjo Fiddle Contest and Folk Festival has grown into a must-attend event for both seasoned musicians and curious newcomers. With five stages of live performances, interactive workshops, artisan vendors, and an instrument petting zoo for kids. There’s something for everyone to enjoy. The heart of the festival remains its Banjo and Fiddle Contests, which kick off the day’s festivities at 9:00 AM.
Whether you’re competing, cheering on your favorite musicians, or joining one of the many jam sessions throughout the festival grounds, the day promises endless entertainment and camaraderie.
Stellar Lineup & Special Guests
This year’s festival boasts an exciting lineup of featured performers, including: Hogslop String Band, Two Runner, Crying Uncle, MariaChingona, Abby Posner, Caltucky, Honey Buckets, June Clivas & the Ditty Boys, Red Coyote Band, Anvil Sky, Hendricks Run, The Hollow Trees, Sweet Potato Music. The Old Time Family String Band, Happy Campers, ABCs of Jug Band Music, Echo Mountain, Molly White, The Music Box Micro Stage.
Adding to the excitement, special guests include Kenny Feinstein, The Doohickeys, and Anna & James Orbison. With such an incredible mix of talent, audiences can expect a rich variety of folk traditions and contemporary influences.
More Than Just Music
Beyond the fantastic performances, festivalgoers can explore a variety of activities, including: Jamming all day – Bring your instrument and join fellow musicians! Workshops – Learn from accomplished players and gain new skills. Artisan marketplace – Browse handcrafted goods and unique folkrelated items. Dancing exhibitions – Experience the joy of traditional folk dancing. Kids’ zone – Featuring a craft station and an instrument petting zoo.
Food & Comfort
Attendees can bring their own picnic and coolers or enjoy delicious offerings from on-site food trucks, including vegan options. For those looking to quench their thirst, craft beer will be available for purchase. In keeping with the festival’s commitment to sustainability, guests are encouraged to bring reusable water containers.
For a comfortable experience at the Main Stage area, bring blankets or beach/camping chairs. High-backed chairs should be placed further back to avoid blocking views.
